Before it's too late

Last night I was made aware of the fact that there were several children who still needed families to host them for the summer. I wrote about them Here. Unfortunately not all of them were able to find their families. These are a different set of kids who need the same thing. They need to be "hosted" which means that they come to America and you make them part of your family for 5 weeks. These kids have until Monday to find "host families."  It will cost $2900 per child unless they are in a sibling group in which case it will cost $2,800 per child. I know that it may seem like a lot but all of these kids have financial scholarships to help cut the cost. These kids are available for adoption, but that is nota requirement  if you decide to get involved in this program.

  1. A lot of these kids have the facial features associated with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder -- read: serious brain damage. Anybody considering hosting them should check out blogs by APs who have adopted kids with fasd such as:
Whenrainhurts.wordpress.com - the adopted older boy had to be institutionalized and has RAD too
fromsurvivaltoserenity.blogspot.com - the family has resorted to respite care and big-time psychiatric meds for both boys have RAD ODD
lordgrantmeserenity.blogspot.com - their 10 yr old adopted daughter is seriously violent and is currently and indefinitely institutionalized

Anyone contemplating hosting these cute but quite possibly brain damaged due to prenatal alcohol kids should do their research so they know what they're getting into!!!!!

    2. Great response Chelsea!
StaN-I only know one experienced international adoption doctor who will do a consult by phone for adoptive families once in country if the photo is taken in specific ways, and with other in-person information that is obtained. Or they could also have FLK Syndrome-Funny Looking Kid! I'm so thankful some of my childhood photos aren't on a blog for the world to judge who I am, or what I have!
But for those who are concerned, FAS and FAE is always something to research prior to adopting from any country, including the USA.
Having children in your home on a hosting trip does not mean you are adopting them. Children who are not considered appropriate for staying in a foreign home are not sent on these trips because of the liability to the director if something should happen.
Praying for all children to have the opportunity to experience life outside of an orphanage, in the home of a loving family this summer!
